By far the single largest operator of the de Havilland DHC-2 Beaver was the US military, who selected the aircraft as their new liaison and aerial evacuation aircraft in 1951. Eventually, almost 1000 aircraft were delivered to the US armed forces, with the majority going to the US Army, but with around 200 Beavers operated by the US Air Force and designated L-20A in US service.
